In late November, the sweet, crispy and tender Qingjiang ponkan in Yuxiakou Town, Changyang County, was ripe and on the market. Hubei Yishizhuang Company, in combination with the local agricultural technology center, organized an "On-site Observation and Training Meeting on Key Technologies for Reducing the Application of Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides and Increasing Efficiency in Citrus" in Longchi Village, Yuxiakou Town. Dr. Anoop Kumer, the chief researcher of the Indian Citrus Research Center, Professor Hu Chengxiao, a post scientist of the National Citrus Industry Technology System, Xie Heping, the director of the Yichang Citrus Comprehensive Experimental Station, and Cao Jiashun, the director of the Agricultural Technology Center of Yuxiakou Town, and many other experts were specially invited to conduct on-site training and guidance on citrus cultivation techniques. The leaders in charge of the Party Committee of Yuxiakou Town were invited to attend the meeting, and more than 60 local citrus cooperative leaders and large-scale growers participated in the training.

In the early morning, Longchi Village was shrouded in a thin mist. The participants arrived in the fields early to see the citrus industry demonstration fields. Hubei Yishizhuang, in cooperation with relevant units, has carried out experimental demonstrations of citrus package fertilization here for many consecutive years and has achieved remarkable results in reducing chemical fertilizers, improving soil quality, and enhancing quality. Technicians on-site tested the sugar content and chlorophyll values of citrus in the demonstration fields and those in the fields with customary fertilization. Combining with the results of later sampling and testing at Huazhong Agricultural University, the average sugar content and chlorophyll values were higher than those with customary fertilization. To know whether it's sweet or not, one has to taste it. The observers tasted the citrus from the demonstration fields and those from the fields with customary fertilization respectively. The difference in taste and the collision of taste buds instantly provided the answer.

Quality Inspection

After inspecting the demonstration fields, Dr. Anoop Kumer, the chief researcher of the Indian Citrus Research Center, wrote an inspection report, expressing his recognition of the demonstration effect of Yishizhuang's citrus package fertilizer.

After the field observation, the "Training Meeting on Key Technologies for Reducing the Application of Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides and Increasing Efficiency in Citrus" was immediately held. At the meeting, Professor Hu Chengxiao, a post scientist of the National Citrus Industry Technology System, delivered a speech on the development direction of the citrus industry. He emphasized that citrus ranks among the top in the world's fruit industry, and the economic value it brings cannot be underestimated. The improvement of citrus quality is inseparable from a healthy soil environment and scientific management methods. Reducing the application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is the key, and the change of thinking is also important. The habit of "seeking large quantity and high concentration" needs to be eliminated to achieve the ultimate improvement of benefits.

Xie Heping, the director of the Yichang Citrus Comprehensive Experimental Station, provided comprehensive guidance on citrus cultivation techniques. Liu Zufeng, the chairman of Hubei Yishizhuang Company, shared the achievements and results of citrus experimental demonstrations across the country in recent years and put forward constructive suggestions for the development of the citrus industry in Yuxiakou Town. Guo Jianquan, the technical director of Hubei Yishizhuang Company, explained in detail the implementation of the demonstration fields and the application methods of citrus package fertilizers. Finally, Cao Jiashun, the director of the Yuxiakou Agricultural Technology Center, summarized the above training and proposed specific measures for the local "two reductions and one increase" action goals for citrus.

This observation and training meeting invited domestic and foreign authoritative citrus experts to conduct on-site inspections and guidance. The leaders of cooperatives and large-scale growers all said that they had benefited a lot and would carry out scientific management and rational application in future citrus cultivation to implement the last mile of quality improvement.
