     On July 6th, Editor-in-Chief Feng of China Chemical Industry News, together with reporters from Agricultural Materials Guide News, visited Yishizhuang and conducted a special interview with General Manager Liu of Yishizhuang. Reporter: When did you start developing the formula fertilizer for citrus?

General Manager Liu: We first started researching and developing formula fertilization for citrus in 1993. At that time, the citrus industry in Yichang was developing rapidly, and the Yichang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture required the soil and fertilizer department to accelerate the development of special formula fertilizers for citrus. Based on the fertilizer requirements of citrus and soil testing data, it took us three years to develop the first formula fertilizer for citrus. I still remember that when this fertilizer was first launched on the market, the supply and marketing system had not been reformed to every township. When the supply and marketing cooperatives came to purchase the special fertilizer for citrus, they all queued up, and the scene was very bustling. The fruit farmers really got good results after using it. There is a retailer named Jiang Zhenggang in Cangwubang Village, Yiling District. His citrus orchard has been using Yishizhuang fertilizer since 1997. For many consecutive years, there has been no phenomenon of alternate bearing, and the price of citrus has been good every year. Now he has become a loyal retailer of ours.

Reporter: What are the advantages of your formula fertilizer for citrus?

General Manager Liu: Our advantages lie in soil testing formula and precise fertilization. Firstly, for the soil testing formula. The main data sources for our soil testing are still the soil and fertilizer stations in various prefecture-level cities in Hubei Province. Their data and the data of our company's soil and fertilizer testing center are shared with each other. On this basis, according to the test results and the fertilizer requirements of crops, we formulate the formula, truly achieving a reasonable combination of major, medium, and trace elements. Secondly, for precise fertilization. The fertilizers we develop can reasonably select raw materials and be carefully developed according to the pH value of the soil. For example, we took soil samples from the citrus orchard in Nanfeng. The soil testing data showed that the soil acidification was severe. We adjusted the pH value of the formulated fertilizer to around 8 - 9. After continuously using Yishizhuang special fertilizer for citrus for three years, the soil pH can be gradually restored to an index value suitable for crop growth. In addition, our citrus fertilizer is rich in humic acid. Long-term application can increase the organic matter content of the soil, improve soil fertility, and improve the soil structure. There is a village head in Danjiangkou, Hubei Province. It is said that his original citrus orchard was very compact. In his words, it was quite difficult to plow the land with an ox. Under the guidance of local experts, after he has continuously used our fertilizer for 8 years from 2007 until now, the soil has gradually become loose. I met him this spring, and he told me: "I have to thank you for providing such a good fertilizer. The soil in my citrus orchard is now very loose. With just a light pry, the soil can be dug out. In the drought the year before last, other citrus orchards couldn't even be plowed, but in my orchard, I could easily dig out the soil with just one shovel!"

Reporter: You mean "others' soil was very hard, impossible to shovel, very difficult to shovel, but he could easily dig it with one shovel", right?

General Manager Liu: That's exactly what I mean. Indeed, others couldn't plow their land, while the farmer who used Yishizhuang fertilizer could easily finish plowing the whole field. This is a fact. Improving the soil is the unique advantage of our formula fertilizer for citrus. Although our fertilizer is in the form of black granules and doesn't look like the high-nutrient fertilizers on the market now that are made to look like monosodium glutamate, the ingredients in our fertilizer have scientific and technological content. It contains organic fertilizer raw materials such as humic acid, has a reasonable ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and also contains medium and trace elements. After continuous application year by year, the soil in the orchard will naturally become looser and looser. Especially in Nanfeng, Jiangxi Province, the effect of our formula fertilizer for citrus in improving the soil has been fully recognized by the local fruit farmers.

Reporter: I really like eating Nanfeng tangerines. What is the effect after using Yishizhuang special formula fertilizer for citrus?

General Manager Liu: In Nanfeng, our product has been recognized. To sum it up in fourteen words: Yishizhuang special formula fertilizer for citrus can increase yield, enhance sweetness, and treat yellow leaves. The increase in yield we mentioned does not refer to the yield of a certain year. Instead, after continuously using it for three to five years, the citrus yield is basically stable, that is, the problem of alternate bearing of citrus has been solved. The second is enhancing sweetness. Nanfeng tangerines used to be very sweet, so they were called tribute tangerines in the past. But recently, they haven't been that sweet. Since they started promoting Yishizhuang special formula fertilizer for citrus which was researched through the National Citrus Industry Technology System, the common people said that the tangerines have become sweeter. More importantly, there is an additional effect, that is, it has a very good treatment effect on the current yellow leaves in Nanfeng. In the past, high-nutrient fertilizers were mainly applied in Nanfeng, with a tendency to over-apply nitrogen fertilizer. The utilization rate of phosphorus was relatively low, and medium and trace elements were generally lacking. The main reason for this yellow leaf phenomenon is the general lack of medium and trace elements.

Reporter: How is the promotion and application of Yishizhuang special fertilizer for citrus nationwide now?

General Manager Liu: The research, development, and promotion of Yishizhuang special formula fertilizer for citrus have been included in the components of the National Citrus Industry Technology System. Academician Deng Xiuxin, the president of Huazhong Agricultural University, is the chief scientist of the Citrus Industry Technology System. He highly affirms the special formula fertilizer for citrus jointly developed by Huazhong Agricultural University and our company's expert team. After seven or eight years of research, development, and upgrading, Yishizhuang special formula fertilizer for citrus has now obtained a national invention patent. Currently, it has been successfully promoted and applied in citrus production areas such as Yiling in Hubei, Zigui in Hubei, Danjiangkou in Hubei, Nanfeng in Jiangxi, Ganzhou in Jiangxi, Shimen in Hunan, Cili in Hunan, Guilin in Guangxi, and Fengjie in Chongqing. In the next step, we hope to expand to citrus production areas such as Pinghe in Fujian, Xinning in Hunan, and Meishan in Sichuan, and strive to create the first brand of professional fertilization for citrus in China.
