Good Citrus Fruits are Produced by the Qingjiang River with Scientific Management and Appropriate Fertilization

Yujiakou Town, Changyang County, Yichang City, Hubei Province, not only has the Yanchi Hot Spring, which is a natural health resort, but also has sweet and delicious Qingjiang Ponkan oranges. Hubei Yishizhuang, in collaboration with the local agricultural technology promotion center, has carried out experimental demonstrations of special package fertilizers for citrus in Yujiakou Town for three consecutive years, and it is said that the effect is very remarkable. In this December, the Ponkan orange orchards by the Qingjiang River Gorge are filled with a fragrant aroma, welcoming a bumper harvest. The technical staff of the company also went to the experimental fields to collect data on yield and quality.


 


The Qingjiang Ponkan oranges have always been famous for their excellent quality. They are crispy, tender, and melt in the mouth, full of flavor, and have high economic benefits, bringing a lot of income to the local people. However, due to the blind pursuit of yield, the quality of Qingjiang Ponkan oranges has been gradually declining.


In view of the national policy on the key technologies for reducing the application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in citrus and increasing efficiency, Hubei Yishizhuang, in conjunction with the Yujiakou Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, began to carry out experimental demonstrations for improving the quality of Qingjiang Ponkan oranges in 2017. Two places were respectively selected for the experiments: the Citrus Planting Professional Cooperative of the Siji Orchard in Yanchi River, Changyang (Longchi Village) with a certain planting scale and the Changyang Yufeng Agricultural Plantation (Xiping Village). Comparative experiments were carried out in both places. The experiment used 2 kilograms of "Yishizhuang" 35% citrus formula fertilizer per tree plus 3 kilograms of "Yishizhuang" bio-organic fertilizer per tree, compared with the farmers' habitual fertilization method.
After two years of experimentation, the product quality has been significantly improved. According to the data measurement of the experimental fields by the expert group of the citrus system in 2018, Director Cao Jiashun of the Agricultural Technology Promotion and Service Center in Yujiakou Town drew the following conclusions:
First, the solid content increased significantly. After measurement, the solid content reached more than 14%, which increased by 1-2 percentage points compared with that in 2017.

Second, the internal quality of Qingjiang Ponkan oranges has changed a lot, mainly reflected in being crispy, tender, and melting in the mouth.

Third, the thickness of the leaves has increased significantly, and the color has become darker green.

Fourth, the brightness of the fruit peel is particularly bright red, showing an orange-red color, and the commercial value is higher.

In comparison, it shows that the application of "Yishizhuang" citrus formula fertilizer + bio-organic fertilizer has a significant effect on improving the quality, strengthening the fruits, promoting the growth of leaves, and enhancing the tree vigor.

Director Cao Jiashun of the Agricultural Technology Promotion and Service Center in Yujiakou Town not only promotes agricultural planting technology but is also excellent at rural poverty alleviation. He has witnessed the effect of the experimental fields over the past three years. From a professional perspective, he highly recognizes the experimental results and has more confidence in the goal of revitalizing agriculture through the local Ponkan orange industry. To this end, Director Cao also composed a doggerel: The Ponkan orange is like a girl who doesn't worry about getting married; it is dressed up and goes far and wide. Targeted poverty alleviation revitalizes the industry, and the flowers of prosperity bloom in thousands of households.
